Dear Students/Parents:
I want to thank you for a truly wonderful start to a school year. Though today begins the second trimester, I feel just as excited about the new trimester as I did in August. Students and faculty, alike, have expressed to me their feelings of positive change this year. With that in mind, our faculty has worked tirelessly these past few weeks to bring the first trimester to a close and begin anew this week. I wanted to take this opportunity to reflect on the year thus far, and let you hear about some of the success we have already experienced.
Our student/athletes have been hard at work in the fall season. Girls' Volleyball and Soccer both competed with incredible efforts, marking improvements on the field of play and in the classroom. Overall GPA's increased by more than half a point. We experienced our first Idaho State Championship in Soccer this year, after a tremendous season. If you did not have an opportunity to see them in action personally, you really missed a treat. The boys were champions on the field from day one with incredible play and excellent sportsmanship. We countered the soccer accolades with a State Championship in Football, the third in 5 years. Each game was more exciting than the last. Blackfoot High School has a tradition of excellence and expectations of everyone involved (coaches, players, parents, and spectators) to carry this tradition forward.
That tradition of excellence also exists in the classroom. BHS was awarded the Distinguished School Award by the Idaho State Board of Education for 2011-12 in October. This distinction was handed to 12 schools in Idaho and we were only one of 3 high school. This award went to our student body and faculty for preparation and execution on the Idaho State Achievement Test (ISATs). For us, this was our school's championship game, and we rose to the occasion. Bringing home this title means much to this community as it confirms that Blackfoot is dedicated to excellence.
As I stated earlier this year, "Greatness is never easily earned." This still remains true as we continue to set high goals and reach for higher heights. I continue my challenge to commit yourselves to those 21st Century skills that develop our students today into the leaders of tomorrow. We remain committed to you as you make this journey and willingly partner with each of you to reach excellence.
Working together, we can accomplish great things.
Sincerely,
John Pearce
Principal, Blackfoot High School
